The Finished Parade!
The many photos below show all the students working hard to finish up these projects. The parade team gained some new faces this week. They worked together on a few last minute things to polish up the parade, including hand made pompoms for the cheerleaders! The girls came up with their own design and quickly put together beautiful multi-colored pompoms. The team of musicians in the parade chose their instruments and then put together an awesome beat. All the students were so busy working on each individual part of the parade that it got a little bit hectic trying to keep track of the process! We all went outside and lined up and paraded around the courtyard. It ended with a rousing chorus of "Help the Earth!!"
The commercial team continued making props, using ingenuity, creativity, and lots of recycled materials. Ms. Kim and Mr. Justin were really proud of the projects they ended up with, including a tall palm tree and a robot. They are not quite finished, but should be ready to film the commercial soon. Thanks to everyone for working hard on these first two projects! We are well on our way to reaching our goals for the semester.

Part of the Landscape
The students are still working hard on their groups projects. We hope to finish up these projects in the next couple of weeks so we can move on to some more group and individual projects.
1) The Recycle Song - The song team just needs to practice a few more times and then we will record their final performance.
2) The Green Parade - The Parade team is currently working on the finishing up the recycled paper earths for their march. They have already completed their banners and signs.
3) The Commercial Spot - The commercial team is still working on the props for the scenes. They are also working on finishing up their characters and scripts.
At the end of the class we came up with the idea of pretending to be parts of the landscape (rocks, cacti, shrubs, trees, etc...)
Here are some photos of the students acting as parts of the landscape in the habitat area:

Recycle Song
Half of the students are currently working on a song they titled, "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle." All of the students are working together to help wirte, sing, and play instruments for the song. All of the instruments being played, were made earlier in the semester from recycled materials.
This is just the first day of working on the song and it is already turning out great! Here is a look at their first practice perfomance.

Time to be creative!
One of our principles at ArtSpace is to let the students' creativity guide the artistic direction of the class. Today, we saw why! The creativity soaring in the classroom was phenomenal. To begin class, Mr. Justin and Miss Kim talked about the project we'd all proposed as a class last week. On Friday we decided to put together a video about recycling. Today we brainstormed ideas of what could go in the video. We came up with a lot of good ideas, but decided to focus on two just for today: a parade and a skit. We broke into two groups and got to work. Each student brought a new perspective and contributed GREAT ideas to the project. Even though we set out to just plan two things, at the end of just an hour and fifteen minutes, we'd collectively planned a parade, written a skit (with character names and all!), written a rap, planned a dance, created a banner, and made a list of art projects we need to accomplish before we can perform our skit and parade.
At the end of the day each student received an ArtSpace gift: a pencil box containing a pencil sharpener, colored pencils and markers! Each student also got a folder to keep all their ArtSpace work in. We all went home at the end of the day excited to come back tomorrow and continue the next step of our project!
